About

Store Norske Bass builds on a lettering alphabet found in the book Lettera (1954–72) by Armin Haab and Walter Hættenschweiler. When adapted digitally, the typeface not only reinterprets the original A–Z and 0–9, but also expands the design by generating new glyphs to support a full Latin extended character set. This digital expansion includes extra diacritics, punctuation, and various symbols previously absent from the original source. As a strictly monospaced typeface, each character serves as a uniform building block, maintaining consistent width and height. The design encourages playfulness for both the designer and the reader. Bass has proved a popular choice for record covers and posters, appreciated for its striking effect and bold visual presence.
