About
Store Norske Baguette is an all-caps headline typeface that celebrates the diversity of cultural interpretations within the Latin alphabet. Drawing inspiration from French signage, Norwegian typographic traditions, and Japanese reinterpretations of Western letterforms, Baguette is designed around the concept of blending and experimenting with these distinct influences.
The concept for Baguette emerged from the observation that typefaces, like bread, are universal but shaped by their cultural contexts. While their basic forms are similar, their emotional and cultural significance differ from one context to another. Japanese reinterpretations of the Latin alphabet often highlight qualities overlooked in Western traditions, resulting in unique expressions. By introducing this external viewpoint, Baguette explores the visual vocabulary of the Latin alphabet and the cross-cultural exchange it facilitates.
Baguette features one upright style and four inclinations, two leaning to the left and two to the right. The typeface invites designers to experiment with typographic arrangements. The variable font allows for precise inclination adjustments up to 16 degrees in either direction, enabling the creation of dynamic, custom compositions. By combining multiple inclinations within a single layout, Baguette encourages playful and distinctive results, particularly suited for branding and editorial design.
Baguette pairs well with SN Jazz.
