About

Store Norske Mekaniske proudly captures the enduring industrial spirit of Aker Mekaniske Verksted’s original workshop lettering. Founded in 1841 in Fossveien, near the lively banks of the Aker River in Oslo, Akers Mek. established its roots in the heart of the city’s industrial evolution. In 1854, the company ventured west to Holmen on the edge of Pipervika (now Aker Brygge), embracing a new chapter of ambition. Over the decades, the shipyard flourished, rising to become Norway’s largest, before its storied era came to a close in 1982.
