About
Store Norske Skandia Condensed is a more compact member of the Skandia family, developed for settings that call for a narrower fit while remaining close to the tone and structure of the original. The cut is only mildly condensed, allowing it to preserve much of Skandia’s balanced contrast, geometric calm, and general atmosphere.
As with the narrower cuts across the family, the work here was to hold the identity of the typeface together as the width tightened. This gives Skandia Condensed a more economical text image without pushing it into a strongly compressed register. It can therefore move through identities, editorial systems, signage, and other space-conscious applications while remaining clearly related to the wider family.
Skandia began with the discovery of a long-lost Scandinavian neo-grotesque originally designed for the Norwegian National Railway. Read more about Skandia’s roots and design process here.
